SUMMER RESIDENCY MARLEEN KAPPE
working period and exhibition
27.06 2018 - 26.08 2018
Marleen Kappe (NL)
Since 2017 PARK offers an artist the opportunity to do a Summer Residency in PARK's space in the summer months. This year, installation artists living and working in The Netherlands were invited to apply for the eight-week working period.
PARK has chosen Marleen Kappe from the applications. The working group was surprised by the combination of drawings with spatial interventions in her work. She is the summer guest in 2018.
She writes: 'My work moves between drawings and installations. There is a constant interaction, the lines and use of materials in my installations have a clear character, and conversely my drawings often explore the spatial dimension. The boundary where my drawings stop and installations begin, and vice versa, is increasingly fading. I want to further investigate this border area in large format, in drawing-like installations or installation-like drawings. I will base the installation I want to make during the Summer Residency on the old Babylon: the idea of man who thinks himself inviolable with all his abilities and knowledge. He is completely absorbed in his expansionist drive, totally ignoring the forces that press on the system from inside and out, until this is no longer tenable. How far can we still go nowadays? How much higher can we still build? I want to create a city in which the forces and threats of the city bursting at the seams are visible and tangible. Unlike Constants New Babylon, this city will not be an answer to the city of the future, but a questioning of our current society and the near future.'
You are cordially invited to visit the open studio on August 17, 18, 19 and 24, 25, 26 between 1 and 5 pm. On Sunday August 26 the period ends with a finissage at 3 pm.
