PARK offers a unique opportunity for a Summer Residency from 19 June to 13 August 2023. The residency was launched in 2017; since 2020, the focus has been on facilitating artists who are part of the diaspora due to Dutch colonialism.
Previous artists in residence at PARK are:
Neil Fortune, Tyna Adebowale, Jonathan van Doornum, Marleen Kappe and Bas Ketelaars.
In 2023, Tilburg's Wilhelminapark is 125 years old. On one of the corners of Wilhelminapark, in the immediate vicinity of PARK, stands the statue of Peerke Donders unveiled in 1926. In light of awareness about the history of slavery and Dutch colonialism, this statue is viewed at from a different angle.
Peerke Donders (1809-1887) was a Tilburg Catholic missionary who worked as a chaplain in Paramaribo and later on the leper colony of Batavia. He is known as an apostle of the indigenous people and lepers and was sanctified in 1982.
Artists interested in analysing and contextualising the statue of Peerke Donders can submit a plan for a project.
What do we ask?
Send a pdf of no more than 5 mb containing:
- A plan of maximum one A4 in which you make known what your relationship with the diaspora is. Describe your working method and how you plan to present the results to the public in an open studio.
- A CV.
- A portfolio with an overview of relevant projects and/or works.
- A copy of passport or ID.
Applications that do not comply with the above will not be considered.
What do we offer?
- You get access to our unique, 250 m2 space for the entire working period to implement your ideas.
- You will receive an expense allowance of € 1000,- per month, all-in.
- You have access to a material budget of up to € 1000 for the entire period.
- Don't live nearby? Accommodation is available, for a maximum of two people, for the entire working period. You do have to take care of the necessary travel & identity documents and the costs of your travel yourself.
Project proposals must be submitted to air@park013.nl by 24 February 2023.
The selection will be announced around 14 March 2023.
No correspondence will be done regarding the outcome.
