The parrot will be central in PARK on Thursday 8 October. The immediate cause is the publication of the 69th edition of Brandon Pers, Tilburg, entitled "Jan van Eyck and the Van der Paele parrot". The author, Harry van Boxtel (Tilburg, 1952), wrote this literary essay because of a salient element on the richly detailed panel on "Madonna with Canon Joris Van der Paele" (1436) by Jan van Eyck, on display in the Groeningemuseum in Bruges.
Since his youth Harry van Boxtel has been fascinated by parrots, albeit mainly where they emerge within a cultural and art-historical context. Already in 1980 he founded the -digital- Parrotmuseum, where he reveals his trouvailles to the outside world.
JACE van de Ven and Charles Vergeer question Van Boxtel about his idiosyncratic predilections, supported by light images and music fragments.
The beautifully designed edition will of course be available during this evening; the price is € 14.50.
Unfortunately only 30 visitors can be admitted due to the Covid-19 regulations.
