18.06 2022

During the first ever national Composer's Day on Saturday June 18, De Link, a concert organisation for new music, and the Academy of Music and Performance Art (AMPA) present a concert full of brand new music in exhibition space PARK in Tilburg.

PROGRAMME
- Marcos Shukuroglou - Vegetative State (Marcos Shukuroglou, 2022)
- Kali Baldou & Gabriele Petouchoff - Sideralis (Gabriele Petouchoff, 2022)
- Markéta Palová & Toon Bierman - Three Fragments for Voice and Piano (Enrico Ferri, 2022)
Pause
- Mathijs Leeuwis – Généalogies III (Mathijs Leeuwis, 2022)
- Tantrum Saxophone Quartet - Fractured Motion (Patrick Ellis, 2022)

First there will be works by students from the composition class of Anthony Fiumara, who teaches at the AMPA.

Mathijs Leeuwis, City Composer of Tilburg, will give a solo performance with pedal steel guitar and cassette tapes. Mathijs Leeuwis began his career as a singer/songwriter, playing in various bands and composing for theatre until he radically changed course in 2018 with the internationally acclaimed 'Galibier', an instrumental album focusing on the pedal steel guitar and inspired by the cycle race. Last year's 'Généalogies' shifted the focus to analogue tape as both sound carrier and instrument, with which Leeuwis expresses his fascination for the failing memory and sonic imperfections. Meanwhile, together with his artistic partner Mathijn den Duijf, he has nestled himself in studio Het Concreet.

The very young Tantrum Saxophone Quartet plays 'Fractured Motion', the audiovisual work that composer Patrick Ellis created specially for them earlier this year during De Link's Artist Residency. In his music, Patrick Ellis has a strikingly original and personal sound and knows how to use instruments in an inventive way. He makes use of hypnotically repeating motifs, incorporates influences from various genres with a playful and self-evident ease and gives them a completely individual interpretation. Patrick Ellis studied composition in Birmingham and received his Master's degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He has worked with the Residentie Orkest, Kluster 5, Orkest de Ereprijs, Xtro Percussion, The New European Ensemble, The Spaceship Ensemble and The Hodiernal Quartet, among others.
