Once again this year, Ticket to Tilburg and Stad van Makers are organising Cultuurroute013. On this day, visitors to the event can get to know Art and Culture in an accessible way at 17 locations.
PARK is opening its doors especially for Cultuurroute013. The exhibition by ex-Tilburgers Sylvie Zijlmans and Hewald Jongenelis entitled 'In the Garden of Doubt and Panic' consists of an installation with paintings and the video 'The Mother of All Failure'.
At6 pm, 7pm and 8pm on this day, there will be special screenings of the film 'They Live in Us (I Am A Very Detailed Person)' (duration 38 minutes) with a short introduction by the artists each time.
Sylvie Zijlmans (1964) and Hewald Jongenelis (1962) are visual artists, directors, writers and performers. They both studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg and at the Rijksacademie (Zijlmans) and De Ateliers (Jongenelis).
Zijlmans and Jongenelis work in a wide range of media with a direct, poetic and sometimes surrealistic visual language. Their work is rooted in current events and is often a critical reflection on them. In recent projects, they combine performance and video with large ink drawings to create complex space-filling installations.
In 2015, they worked with a hundred residents of Amsterdam North on 'The Magnetic North', a project about the origins and consequences of gentrification in this rapidly changing district. For "They Live In Us", a project about the fear and beauty of psychosis, they worked with patients and staff from the psychiatric ward of Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.
Their work has been shown in numerous art institutions and museums, including: Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Galerie der Stadt Backnang, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Centraal Museum Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Stedelijk Museum Breda, Art Museum of Nanjing University, Chinese European Art Centre Xiamen, The Istanbul Modern and the IFFR. Sylvie Zijlmans and Hewald Jongenelis live and work in Amsterdam and both teach at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
