&Hedwig Houben (NL)
&Hedwig Houben and Paul Geelen have been invited by PARK for a duo exhibition. Houben also collaborates with others and therefore uses the designation &Hedwig Houben. For their project, they regard the exhibition space as a body. A body has one side that is visible and one side that is less visible. All kinds of processes are constantly taking place both inside and outside the body that affect the overall functioning of it. Think of applying for subsidies, negotiation & lobbying, shifts in the political field, uncertainties, selection and invitation procedures, outside judgment, crowd pullers, changing exhibitions, social trends, etc.
Paul Geelen and &Hedwig Houben: 'From the two concepts 'care' and 'survival' we enter the PARK space with a number of objects and interventions that can be seen as parts of the body, like the intestines, organs, the blood, the hand, the genitals and the skin. Each of these are essential parts that the body needs to be able to live and /or survive. A body that feels good about itself is better able to take care of its environment, but how does the body ensure that it remains in balance, how does the body survive and how does it ensure that it remains visible and relevant to the environment.'
