Kato Mergan (1998) is a choreographer, dancer and teacher. She graduated in Tilburg (NL) from the FHK Dance Academy with a Bachelor of Dance Education and a Bachelor of Choreography (2022). Under the name Physical dialogues she creates performances where she constantly seeks the interaction between man, space and object.
She is currently exploring the performer's physical consciousness and how it relates to the role of the audience. Her debut, Absent bodies is a movement installation with mirrors that explores profound themes such as collectivity, loneliness, beauty and perception. In it, three performers engage with each other, the audience and the space through reflections. Beneath the surface of the everyday they find each other in a new shared reality.
Absent bodies has been seen at Par Hasard, Cape Town Festival, Festival Boulevard and Festival Glow, among others. And will still play at Dansstorm Festival in Bruges, Maanrock and Open Monument Day in Mechelen.
She combines creating with teaching Contemporary dance at the conservatory in Leuven and the Academy of Hamme. She greatly cherishes this exchange with different generations and audiences, fueling her work and the question of what dance can mean in our current society.
Kato reacts to the exhibition Glacial Fire. The performance is on Saturday, February 15 at 3.30 pm.
