The exhibition Underpaintings & Overpaintings explores the layering of painting. Jacqueline Peeters' working method revolves around transformation: previous works are given a new life by being partially or completely overpainted. This approach opens up a conversation about continuity and impermanence within the artistic process. The works in this exhibition demonstrate this evolution.
An eye-catcher is the installation All her floors on the large wall in the room. This consists of 11 floor paintings - ranging from 70 x 55 cm to 190 x 240 cm - in which Peeters depicts the herringbone floors of her dreamed galleries over previous paintings. On the balcony windows of the choir, numbered stickers refer to these works, with additional information (titles, sizes, years and prices) on an accompanying legend on the wall.
In addition, six new, large paintings are presented on the ground floor. Smaller works with text - reflections, descriptions and musings - invite visitors to delve deeper into the context of her paintings. For the exhibition, Peeters is also creating a unique edition in the form of etchings. Whereas previous editions depict the exhibition space itself, this edition focuses on PARK's natural environment: the Wilhelminapark.
With this presentation, PARK offers a dynamic and intimate glimpse into the continuous evolution of Peeters' oeuvre, where past and future meet.
Opening Saturday 17 May 4pm, most welcome.
On this day, PARK will be open from 3pm.
